What Is a Stop/Slow Paddle?
A Stop/Slow paddle is a double-sided traffic control sign that guides motorists safely around road crews, work zones, school zones, and other areas requiring manual traffic management. One side displays "STOP" and the other displays "SLOW" — clearly communicating to approaching drivers exactly what is expected of them in a way that flags and hand signals simply cannot match. Stop/Slow paddles are basic flagger equipment and are recognized by the MUTCD as the primary and preferred hand-signaling device for traffic control operations. Stop/Stop paddles are also available for applications requiring full traffic stops from both directions.
Rigid Stop/Slow Paddles
Our rigid Stop/Slow paddles are available in both 18" and 24" octagon versions to meet MUTCD size requirements for your specific speed zone and application. Choose from reflective or non-reflective surfaces depending on whether your flagging operations extend into low-light or nighttime conditions. Both plastic and aluminum substrate options are available — aluminum providing greater durability for heavy daily use, and plastic offering a lightweight, economical option for occasional or short-term applications.
All rigid Stop/Slow paddles come with a 12" PVC handle attached for immediate use straight out of the box. For applications requiring greater visibility and reach, add our P52 extension handle to raise the sign face to 6 feet off the ground — improving sightlines for drivers approaching from a distance and keeping your flagger safely away from the traffic stream.
